First day!

Hi, this is a new blog I'm keeping for Cafe Sketch.  These sketches were all done from life around the CCAD quad on Wednesday, Sept. 1st.  Most of the first ones were done in ballpoint pen, and later a couple in felt tip, with the last being brush pen.

I decided to put them all up, but may take some of the weaker ones down later if I find out I'm 100% not allowed to put all of them up.  I'm just used to kind of "dumping"  a lot at once...  just easier for me I guess.

  1. Oh wow, these are amazing!

I really like the style you did with the brush pen drawings.

  2. Wow, these are fantastic! There's such a variety here. I love all of the poses and the slight rendering each one has. Super cool.

  3. Kirsten,
A great start. Your line is very condusive to making gestures - loose but with a variety of weights. These are all good but the ones that are the strongest to me are:
1.The seated poses with the chairs
2.The security guard on the bicycle

Why? They possess the gesture all the others do but the figures are grounded more, due to the addition of their surrounding or an object with which they interact.

Think about how you use value patterns, as well, to reinforce this (the walker gestures would benefit from grounding them with shadows AND environments).
    Great job !

  4. These are really good. The variation in line weight and light value really help them look more like finished drawings. Good detail as well.
